Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times I would like them to choose a location/seat in the classroom that works for them. This will be my second year of teaching and I have decided to make changes to my classroom seating so that my students can work in a successful environment. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Since my classroom is an inclusive classroom I have many students that would benefit from the opportunity to sit where and how they feel comfortable. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble cushion will allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. These can be used for any student in the room which means that no student is left out for using something "different." The softzone floor cushions and the beanbag chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. I have requested a couple rugs. While these rugs are still colorful and soft they are less overwhelming for my students with disabilities because sometimes more patterns can be a distraction. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us develop even more!
