Students who take ownership of learning are more successful. Not all students do their best learning at a conventional classroom chair and desk. Many children, especially students with attention deficit disorder, end up getting in trouble at school for behaviors that they feel powerless over. I want to help my students self-monitor and equip them with the power to make good choices for themselves. When students notice themselves feeling off-task or are having difficulty staying in one place, I would love to have alternative seats for them to choose from. Just as teachers must be flexible and sensitive to student needs, the classroom environment should be, also.
