Developing an effective school garden will offer opportunities for our student body to observe the life cycles of plants and animals, collect and compare data, and carry out scientific investigations. Our school-wide focus is to increase students' proficiency on Nature of Science standards. A school garden will help us achieve our goal. Our students are eager to get outside and observe nature. A school garden will offer a safe environment to design long-term investigations, ponder questions about nature, design experiments that can be observed over time, and create habitats that will attract wildlife. Our students are growing scientists that want to be in nature's classroom. Our students need garden soil and seeds to explore the life cycle of plants and the effects of varied soil types. The Mr. Stacky vegetable and herb garden will assist in maximizing the space in our small garden and water conservation. The Gorilla cart will enable our elementary students to move bags of potting soil, places, and materials from the school parking lot to the back of the field where our garden is located. The gloves and gardening tools will allow students to handle the plants and soil safely.
