We will be completing a novel study on "Bridge to Terabithia" for the first six weeks of the 2019-2020 school year. In the previous year, we were unable to have this amazing opportunity to read a chapter book with our scholars. I am so excited to do so! "Bridge to Terabithia" has themes that can help them develop into more mature students. Things like being a good friend and accepting yourself are present in the changed my students are going through as they are just starting muddle school! In the first six weeks of the school year it is important to get kids invested in their education. Once you can create relationships with your scholars and pair it with an interesting texts the students have a desire to push themselves to learn. It is my hopes that my students will connect to the text and relating it to their lives. We will use this book during read alouds, independent reading, and partner reading to grow fluency and comprehension. We will be pairing the text with various short stories and poems such as "The Challenger" by Gary Soto and "Underface" by Shel Silverstein. Class and group discussions will also help students develop their critical thinking, speaking, and writing skills, all while building relationships in the classroom and with the characters in the novel.
