Halfway through their K-12 education, my sixth-grade math students are the perfect blend of children and young adults. They are delightfully energetic, and with that level of energy comes the need to move. I'm asking for wobble chairs for my classroom to give my students the opportunity to move and focus on their learning in my double-block class at the same time.
"If I get anxious or a little frustrated, I can move around a little bit and it can also help me focus a little bit better." This was one student's explanation of why she prefers a wobble chair over a standard classroom chair. Other students echoed similar statements about moving and staying focused. A full 64% of my students prefer a wobble chair, given the choice, with only 8% asking for a standard chair. In one active class, over 75% of the class has claimed that they prefer to learn in a wobble chair.
I have been fortunate in that my principal has been able to allocate funds for 12 of the chairs, but I want to have enough chairs for all who prefer them. Please help me make that a possibility!
