We need more books that reflect and celebrate our community. Both students and teachers will check these books out. Many of the picture books will be read aloud, the chapter books will be chosen for independent reading, and the biographies will likely be checked out by teachers to connect with their content. By having these books visible and circulated, my hope is that students will feel inspired, connected, and most importantly that our library belongs to THEM. The books in this project celebrate diverse cultures, ethnicities, religions, and accomplishments. Some titles include Who Is Sonia Sotomayor, Alma and How She Got Her Name, Izzy Gizmo, A Bike Like Sergio's, Festival of Colors, Hidden Figures, Islandborn, and Kid President's Guide to Being Awesome.
