My students work hard throughout the day in our second grade classroom. Each day they have a twenty-five minute break for recess. Many of our indoor recess games and activities are old and have missing pieces. The winter can be long and cold here in Connecticut so many days the kids cannot go outside to play. Over the years I have purchased games at tag sales and even brought in the games that my own children have outgrown.
It is during this indoor recess time that they can express their creativity through such items as Legos, K-Nex, and Crayola Markers. They can improve their fine motor skills by using a variety of puzzles. Inferencing can happen by playing games such as "Guess Who?". Banana Grams and Boggle help develop a child's vocabulary skills.
Many of the items that I have requested lend themselves to STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Please consider funding our indoor recess project so that my students can start the school year with new engaging indoor recess games and activities.
