This school year, I will be stepping back into the classroom to teach 1st grade. My hope is to provide my students with a library full of books they want to read and enjoy. Giving students choice in what they read independently is so important but I can't do that if my classroom library contains only a handful of books. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of texts that will allow them to read independently at their level. They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. These books will also help increase my students writing ability. My students will see how authors structure their stories, use detail to bring their stories to life as well as punctuate. My students will be able to look back at many of these books when writing their own stories to see and mimic what good writers do. Books are so important in so many ways. I need these books so that every student in my room can spend time each day working to grow not only as a reader but also as a writer.
