Learning about life outside of our home, school and community helps mold us into compassionate, open-minded, well rounded individuals. By making connections with other cultures and identifying similarities and differences, we are able to build acceptance about the diverseness of the world. By using the book "A Long Walk to Water", students will gain an understanding for a culture outside of their own. Students will explore the history of Africa from an African point of view during a civil war. Through analyzing the text to answer questions and participating in Socratic seminars about the issues of African culture and injustice, students will be able to build a bridge between their world and the world of of two children living very different lifestyles.
