The more active and mobile 6th graders are, the more effective and focused their thinking will be. It's difficult for adults to remain seated very long without getting lethargic and bored; imagine what kids feel like! Stability balls for seating are the perfect solution to the "ants in the pants" problems that most students have. Studies have proven that the more students are able to move around, change perspective, and focus on their work, the more successful they will be in the classroom. When the students use the stability balls as a more flexible option for seating, students will be provided the opportunity to keep their legs and body moving while they work. By allowing more movement, even the slightest wiggles and bounces, students are able to stay engaged in tasks and/or conversations, therefore getting more out of the learning and contributing more in class. Bodies were made to move, especially growing bodies! I typically have 2-3 students with attention issues. The balls serve as a great remedy to those problems without any unnecessary disruptions to the rest of the class.
