Who doesn't love LEGOs? Math can often times be a very intimidating subject for students, especially as they learn more complex ideas in middle school. Geometry, data and probability, algebra, absolute value... What happened to just simple multiplication? Students who do not naturally gravitate towards math have a tendency to lose focus during the middle school years, when they should be learning the foundations of math that will most likely carry them through the rest of their lives. By using hands-on activities through the use of LEGO blocks, Create-0-Flakes, and Dreambuilder magnetic shapes, students can create, design, and manipulate their way through difficult math concepts and bring back the fun that learning should be! When students get engaged in an activity and have to think their way through the process, they are much more likely to want to learn and discover on their own. Students who are in charge of their own learning will retain and understand the information much easier than if it is just drilled into their heads.
