Through the use of puppets, we are creating opportunities for our students to accomplish developmental milestones like learning to share, help others, social interactions, and cooperating with peers. They also are learning to problem solve, taking turns and how to use self-control over aggressive behaviors. One way to create these skills is through puppet play. Puppet play is effective because it helps the parent/teacher enter to the child's imaginary world and allows children to experience the feelings of other characters (early empathy development). With puppets our students are able to recreate a story or even create their own stories. Through the use of puppets you could also explore solutions to to pretend problems.
