Financial literacy is a subject that most people who live under the difficult conditions of poverty never have the opportunity to learn. In the past few years the wealth gap that exists in the U.S. economy has grown larger by the day. The impoverished citizens of this country mostly suffer because of what they aren't aware of about finances and U.S. economics.
As an educator I have the distinct responsibility to provide young budding learners that are directly affected by poverty, with the opportunity to shift their financial destiny towards success. Through the Young Money project I'll be providing impactful financial literacy through three different books. These books and magazines offer enlightening ideas on spending money, earning money, saving money and how to use money to make the world a safe and enjoyable place.
The first book chosen was, "Smart Money How to manage your cash," from the Scholastic Choice series. This book provides tips and advice for teenagers on how to make, save, and spend money legally and wisely. Second, "The World the World Is Mine," depicts the reality of the practice of financial literacy and its rewards. The book is about a dreamer on a mission to become the world's next music business mogul. Third, "Elijah of Buxton" a Historical Fiction novel about the first child in the town of Buxton to be born free. Amazingly Elijah befriends a young boy who has been saving money to buy his family out of captivity in the South, but is conflicted by a series of financial and social challenges that will cause them both to gain knowledge and understanding of finances.
Because of this wonderful opportunity to provide financial strategies and enlightenment many students will go on to build successful families, create innovative products and businesses that will uplift humanity.
