These books will help my students learn by helping them relate to characters. My students need these books about kids who go through similar experiences and deal with issues that they deal with. When my students realize that they can relate to books, they become invested in reading and develop a love of reading that cannot be taken away. They will learn that when times are hard, they can read. When they feel lonely, they can find a friend by reading. When they are *gasp* bored, they can read and be transported into a different place that boredom cannot touch.
