As a first-year special education teacher, I have inherited a classroom with little materials. The array of items I am requesting each play a specific role in the classroom community I am trying to build. The stools and exercise balls will be used as flexible seating options for friends during work time, allowing for movement with little distraction. The bean bag chair with foot stool and the variety of books will be used to create a library area within our classroom. Creating a classroom where students feel supported, inspired, and empowered to be their best person is my goal. The fidgets, social skills books, and selection of games will be used for social skills instruction. The second bean bag chair will be used to create a "Chill Zone" in my classroom, where my students can go when they are overstimulated, frustrated, and/or just need some quiet time to themselves.
