I am asking for help gettting books into the hands of my students that contain characters to whom they can relate. Our library is currently outdated and missing books on diversity, inclusion and belonging. This makes it difficult for students to choose books that interest them. Students often crave those connections in the stories they read. These books are important to the growth of our students and their sense of acceptance and security. Keeping my students in mind, I chose these books to help them see themselves in different situations and make those personal connections with the characters. I am requesting books whose main characters share the same physical appearance as my students. These books will be placed in our library for all of our students to read at school, home and/or to be shared virtual during this time of social distancing.
