It is vitally important that students are given every opportunity to improve their reading. The academic level of my students is diverse. Some will perform extremely high and some will perform extremely low. However, one way that I plan to combat and/or enhance the reading levels of my students is through a diverse classroom library. In my library selection, I have chosen books that are culturally relatable and diverse. One way that I have discovered to engage students in texts (especially for self-motivated reading) is by giving them “choice texts” that they can relate to. Furthermore, since students will have firsthand access to books for independent reading, it will allow them to engage in constructive and educational conversations about different books with their peers.
