Last year I was able to grow my classroom library to nearly 400 books through many trips to book sales and generous donations of new/used books, all within my first year of teaching. I was(and still am) ecstatic about that small feat. As the age-old proverb goes: It takes a village to raise a child, and the growth of my classroom library last year is a testament to that. With that being said, my students still need complete series to help foster a love for reading and build reading stamina. Through the growth of my classroom library I have acquired many books that belong in series; however, do not have complete sets of any series. My project is a rallying cry to complete the series that I currently have in my classroom library, such as the I Survived Series, Harry Potter, and Eragon, as well as add a few extremely high-interest series, such as the 39 Clues Series and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The high-interest piece of this project will allow students to find a book they enjoy to build a passion for reading, while the series piece of the project will build stamina since students will be reading across an entire series. Having complete series of high-interest books will positively impact my students' learning through simply getting each student to read more. If a student gets hooked on book 1 of the 39 Clues Series, they are much more likely to pick up book 2, then 3, 4, etc. until they finish all 39! Please consider funding my project to help my students gain access to high-interest series to build reading stamina and a passion for reading.
