This class set of books will assist my students with acquiring knowledge about history in an enjoyable fashion. My students love to read books. They learn a lot more when they read something set in history but fictionalized to tantalize the imagination.
We have two specific units that these books will supplement. First, the students will be learning about the American Revolution and Fever 1793 expands on the knowledge to show the devastation of what is occurring in America during this time period. Laura Halse Anderson, the author, does a fantastic job of researching the time period when she writes her books so that the history in the fiction is real. Reading this book, will encourage my students to verify the factual information of that time in history. The second unit is World War II. The students will read the drama The Diary of Anne Frank. They need a supplement to this play that is not overused and encourages a growth mindset with rigor involved. The Devil's Arithmetic by Jane Yolen provides this opportunity. The students will compare and contrast the literature and the media to understand where and how authors bring history to life in writing and viewing materials. With your assistance, I will be able to provide rich learning opportunities for my students. Thank you for your help!
