Five- and six-year olds are made to move. They learn by moving, by experiencing. Forcing them to sit still in a chair to do work is not easy for them, and I often see them not working because they are trying to get comfortable in a chair that doesn't move. If my students had options for seating that would allow them to naturally wiggle while they worked, they would learn so much more from the hands-on activities that I plan for them. If they were able to use some of their energy by being able to wiggle, there would be less of them putting their hands on others and more of them saying "look what I learned", "look what I did"!
