I am honored to teach a diverse group of K4/K5 students in a Title One elementary school in West Allis West Milwaukee, WI. My K4/K5 classroom consists of 25 students of which 100% of them qualify for free breakfast and lunch. As we all know, these past few school years have brought on many challenges in the face of this pandemic. Some challenges have been inescapable, others have made us stronger and even more empathetic, yet others have only caused frustration!
My students have shown grit and perseverance in such a challenging time on top of their own personal challenges. They thrive on engaging and interactive experiences in their classroom. It is my philosophy to provide these littles with a warm and inviting school experience, whether they are virtual or in person. “Mrs. Wall...we need a new SMARTboard!” has been what I have heard my students shout numerous times throughout the day. My virtual students struggle to see the projection because of clarity issues or have difficulty hearing because the speakers barely produce any sound. My in person students have difficulty manipulating the tools and actively participating in the lesson. Our Smartboard is definitely a DINOSAUR that is still on a GIANT easel and not able to be hung on our walls which takes up an enormous amount of usable floorspace in our very tiny classroom but our kiddos love the interaction! In our K4/K5 Next generation classrooms, interactive whiteboards provide all students with an opportunity to manipulate and show their thinking in fun and engaging ways throughout our entire curriculum.
Team Inspiration is humbly requesting your support to bring back the proud smiles I see on the little faces of my students as they explain their thinking, create and design, or just PLAY!
