This coming school year I want to implement more hands-on and higher order thinking activities to increase student engagement and academic performance. A great way to do this is by using STEM boxes. Students will be challenged to create projects such as building bridges, towers, boats, shapes, tunnels and many more. They will also need to evaluate their structure and think of ways in which it could improve. All the materials for the activities will be stored in sterilite plastic pencil boxes to make it more practical and keep things organized. Students will be problem-solving, using fine motor skills, collaborating, and reflecting on their piece of work. Using STEM activities is a great way to get students ready for the real world as they acquire new skills and have fun while working on their challenges.
