In order to learn reading, it's important for young students (even older ones) to be read to.to understand how the words in the book sounds and the cadence of how sentences sound in the story being read.to them. This is why a listening station is so important. Hear the story through the headphones also cuts down on distraction and keeps them engaged. Another component to my Literacy Center are the dry erase pockets for Writing and Word Work activities. This cuts down on using a lot of paper and great for practicing those skills. Math manipulatives and Duplo Legos are awesome for building a foundation on sorting, recognizing patterns, addition, subtraction and even fractions, even in Kindergarten. Having an assortment of manipulatives keeps things interesting. Using these also build their motor skills which helps with their handwriting
