A class set of each of these texts that are unavailable through our school book room will allow my students to engage in and grapple with some of the great texts of classic and contemporary literature. I want my students to have access to literature that provides windows onto worlds and lives much different from their own as well as mirrors by which they can recognize themselves. Persopolis gives students a chance to learn identity, race, and history through the story of an Iranian girl. Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey will provide students with a more accessible version of a classic that provides invaluable cultural and personal insights.
