Kindergarten provides a foundation for future success. Our classroom is filled with phonological awareness. We are constantly manipulating, adding, and deleting phonemes. Research has proven that a strong base in phonological awareness is critical for future reading success. After students have mastered phonological awareness, they need to learn how to decode words. Decodable texts provide a structured framework for students to be successful. I hope to provide the students with books that will allow them to practice the explicit phonics skills they are learning. I am requesting Bob Books. With these books, my students will feel like successful readers. In turn, they will want to read more, gain more practice, and become automatic at reading words that contain the skills they are learning. I hope to help each of my students make gains with their reading and become life-long learners.
