The students at my school are traditionally low-income, underprivileged students. We are majority Latino and African American, although there is a growing refugee population. The majority of our students will also be first-generation college students and have the opportunity to majorly influence the path of their families. Our high school is growing - we currently have freshmen and sophomores - and we will be adding a new grade each year. I am the founding teacher for the College Iniatives program meaning that we offer guidance and mentorship to our students with a focus on resumes, letters of recommendation, transcripts, personal essays and standardized tests. It is difficult to check in with each of my students, so I have committed to creating a YouTube channel that helps them from home, library or when they stay after school so there is always a way for them to see what they need to do.
