I teach at a small elementary school in Santa Rosa, California. Over half of the student population come from households struggling to make ends meet as well as a growing number of English Learners. In fact, 56% of our student population receives free or reduced lunch, which means that over of our school is living below the poverty level. This, in turn, means that not all students are able to have experiences beyond our immediate community. Despite their economic positions however, my kids are passionate about making sense of the world, and learning all that they can. I am one lucky teacher to be able to help my students achieve their goals.
