Our school will introduce a new initiative to create community and build positive relationships. There will be mixed grade level “families” that meet monthly to focus on character traits and to enhance a school-wide culture of togetherness. The book Only One You by Linda Kranz will kick off the school year. By donating to our project, you will help students learn about tolerance and acceptance as they meet and grow along with others in their “family.” I am requesting copies of the book Only One You and shellac. During our first monthly activity, students will complete an art project with stones, paint and shellac. Each student will create an individual, uniquely decorated rock that represents their personality or difference. This project will allow us to start this kick-off activity for our students to connect with others outside their classrooms. “Families” will include younger and older students as well as new positive adult role models. The final products will be added to our newly designed “eco-friendly green learning space” to remind students and our community about all our unique qualities.
