I have requested a Hamilton CD player for the students to insert their CDs into, which will be an audio version of a book, a stereo jack box that allows 1-6 students to listen to the same story on CD and where the students can control their own personal volume, 6 headphones, and various children's books that come with an audio CD. Small groups would visit the listening center, listen to the audio version of the book, and then complete a short literacy activity based on what they just read and listened to. It is important for children to learn through a variety of medias. The materials I have chosen for this grant include various items that will create a literacy listening center in my classroom. This listening center will be used daily during our literacy center time and will allow students to listen to a book on CD. This practice allows students acquire fluency as well as word recognition. The listening center would incorporate reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing. The books this grant would purchase would also allow a wide range of genres as well as reading levels. I believe this center would also allow students to take charge of their learning and motivate them to read more!
