Studies show that students should make a connection to a text prior to even reading it in order for them to gain knowledge from the text. Unfortunately, not all books that are provided reflect our diverse cultures. As an educator, It is my priority to encourage students to strive for success. With these books, my students will be able to see themselves in texts. They will be able to see their Abuelita, trying to learn English just like in the book Mango, Abuela, and Me. They will be able to learn about historical people such as Frida Kahlo, Celia Cruz and many others that have made a difference in this world just like they will one day.

About my class
