Children of War: Voices of Iraqi Refugees by Deborah Ellis is a very powerful book that I believe will have a positive impact on my students. It will give them a chance to see the world differently than what their first impressions have been. It will also help them to become global citizens by learning about other parts of the world and the challenges that other students around the same age as they have faced during the 21st century. My students deserve a chance to find meaning in their Grade 9 curriculum and they deserve a chance to expand their knowledge about the world. These books will truly open the door for my students to strengthen their literacy skills as well as make connections across multiple subject areas. My goal is to enable each student to open their minds to something bigger than themselves.
