Education is changing every single day, and so are the interests of my students. Students in my classroom need modern independent reading titles such as Field Trip Mysteries and National Geographic nonfiction as well as flexible seating like bean bag chairs to spark interest and find reading fun. Other interests of my students are graphic novels and sports, well as series books that feature boys as the main characters, like Stink and Ready Freddy. Students are responsible for managing their own learning during independent reading, so having a wide variety of high interest books and seating options available will ensure even the most reluctant reader will be engaged. Literacy is the key to being a productive citizen in our global community, and I want to provide my students every opportunity to be successful. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn with quality books.
