This year, along with two other teachers, I was given the opportunity to use Beebots on loan in my own classroom. At the start of the year, working with the Beebots was a challenge, but with more time spent, students gained the understanding necessary to be able to program and troubleshoot the programming of their Beebots, leading to more avenues for effective lessons. An example can be seen in the photograph above of my students successfully learning English Language Art standards by playing a sight word game. We were also able to use the Beebots for Social Studies standards, mapping our school site and town, where students created three-dimensional caves and overpasses for Beebot to drive under. For all of these activities, the students engaged in the use of math to determine how many spaces Beebot needed to move, while working together to create, and taking turns when it was appropriate.
