Flexible seating is essential to the early childhood classroom. Unfortunately, many Title 1 schools simply don't have the funding to accommodate this need.
Research on flexible seating has uncovered a plethora of positive benefits. Empowering students to have a degree of control and choice over their learning environment, making it FUN and COMFORTABLE which keeps students more engaged and on task. Students develop higher order of thinking by figuring out what is the most beneficial position for them to complete a task. Most importantly, all students need sensory input and more physical activity, especially those with differing learning abilities such as ADD, ADHD, and ASD.
On a larger scale, many Title 1 school children are at risk for not finishing high school. Let's give them the best start believing wholeheartedly that it will give them tools to finish not only well, but most importantly, their own personal best.
My heart is to give my students the best foundation. A foundation that will gift them a love for learning, confidence in themselves as well as their ability to decide and learn, and develop higher order of thinking.
