The storage unit I am requesting is a super-convenient classroom storage on wheels with compartments to keep supplies right where my students can reach them. Since our school is the newest in the district we are still collecting the necessary supplies and resources to support our students. Students with special needs do not have access to materials and supplies that they can be self sufficient in reaching and obtaining when appropriate. The shelving we do have in the classroom is often too high or too low for students to reach. This unit would enable students to be self-sufficient and independent when using materials. Many of our manipulatives, blocks, and other items my students use are in heavy plastic containers that are hard for them to move or reach into. Because of physical disabilities and weak core muscles, they often lean into the plastic containers to get what they need, breaking the sides and causing possible dangerous conditions. Students could learn the life skill of being able to be independent and self-sufficient with the ability to reach what they need easily on a shelf when appropriate. During other times of the day, the storage unit could be folded away to keep students with behavior issues from clearing the shelves when the items are not to be used.
