Current research suggests that student choice elevates student engagement and increases learning. Alternate seating options are one way to offer student choice while creating an environment conducive to optimal learning. My aspiration is to make our classroom a place where everyone feels comfortable and can be successful in their learning environment. In setting up my new classroom, I am striving to make a classroom that would be accessible for all kinds of learners as well as allow students more choice and encourage them to focus on their learning! With help, I was able to adjust desk height to create standing desks and find tables that could be lowered to accommodate those that feel more comfortable on the floor. I am looking to add wobble cushions, yoga mats, and different sensory seats for students who seek an alternative kind of seating to help them to concentrate. My wish is to allow students autonomy and a chance to learn more about their learning preferences and style.
