Developmental children's psychology shows that the relationship between play, imagination, and academic learning is critical in a child's early years. The opportunity for children to interact with each other through interactive play promotes strong social emotional learning that deepens a child's sense of belonging in the classroom. Academic toys strengthen children's critical thinking and allow children to build connections between structured play and learning and discovery. These learning activities and academic toys will increase my students' capacity for imagination, creation, and social learning. According to research, these STEM activities will be a critical element of my childrens' cognitive and kinetic development throughout the school year. These materials align with the applied mathematical standards for second grade.
