As I have observed over the last year, desks are not functional for grown young men who need space. I have worked to provide some areas in the classroom with wing back chairs and rolling chairs to provide a more comfortable learning environment. As our classroom grows, so do our needs. It has been on my heart to provide learning spaces that will give my students areas where they can work in small groups as well as areas where they can work individually. Our classroom does not have windows, so we have to be creative with decorative learning materials. Most of my students are in the classroom for the duration of the day, including eating lunch in the classroom. I feel that providing a more comfortable area for the boys will help with both learning and behavior. These areas of comfort will also help the boys engage with one another in a positive way.
