I am an experienced elementary special education teacher working for NYC Public Schools. I have taught in District 75 for over 10 years; this program serves students with severe and profound special needs (physical / emotional / psychological). Many of these students are high-needs and are at-risk; they often come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and have troubled lives outside of school. Throughout my career as a teacher, I have come to realize that in order to fully realize the potential of my students, many more resources are necessary to engage, inspire, motivate and encourage these children than are provided to us by our schools and the city. Consequently, I spend thousands of dollars every year acquiring supplies and materials that contribute to not only the education of my students, but to help them feel like a valued, loved and respected member of society.
