This coming year, I want to focus on turning my 8th graders into readers! As an avid reader myself, I always find a comfortable place to kick my feet up and dig into a great story. My students share that same desire to relax and read in a safe space. Comfy chairs, lighting that appeases the eye, and meeting spaces may not seem like an important aspect of the classroom, but it is! I see how much my students feel valued and appreciated when they're given the option to sit comfortably while they talk with one another, read, and learn. My students relish the few comfy chairs in my classroom and rush to be the first seated in them. Let's work together to make comfortability a staple in the classroom, instead of a fought over area.
