I want to create a welcoming classroom for students so that they come to school each day ready to learn with a smile on their face. Research shows that students are better able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable and can get their wiggles out, so last year I introduced flexible seating in my 3rd-grade classroom. With flexible seating, my students have the freedom to find comfortable work spaces around the room from a variety of seating options. They are no longer tied to sitting on a chair at a desk while they learn. Flexible seating has helped improve student learning by setting up the classroom to develop essential skills of collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. It also helped students use up excess energy and increased motivation and engagement. To make flexible seating possible for every student each day, we need a few more items. We would like to purchase four wobble stools and two balance balls. With these flexible seating items our classroom will be able to better meet the learning needs of each and every student.
