The students that I serve live in a large metropolitan area in Arizona. The disparaging state of education in this part of the country affects all content areas, especially science education. Many of my students ride the city bus to attend the charter school where I teach Biology, Botany, and Anatomy and Physiology. These students make education a priority in their lives and go to these lengths to attend a small school where teachers and administrators have carved out a safe haven. The high attendance rate, eagerness to learn, and engagement in science inspire me to create progressive lessons. However, the ever-shrinking resources allotted to science and new materials limit these lessons. These students deserve the chance to see science in action. Up close and personal. And they thirst to relate their macroscopic view to the microscopic world that makes it all run smoothly.
