My students have spent most of their educational career struggling and being afraid of math. They never saw "why they had to do it". The Scholastic Magazine contains many articles and examples that are based on things that the students see in their lives every day, such as social media, endangered species, childhood toys, etc., and it makes use of statistical, geometric, and algebraic practices. The students look forward to receiving their magazine, and they are actually excited to do the math! This magazine format makes the concepts fun and relevant, so the students are less likely to grumble about having to do math, because they see how it applies to everything in the world.
