Flexible seating allow for flexible learning! After whole group instruction students are given the choice to work at their desk or choose a seating option that best fits their needs. Currently my students are choosing to sit at their desk, the floor, or a table. By allowing them comfortable seating options and movement options (wobble seats) they will be able to keep their bodies active which will help keep their brains engaged!
By providing flexible seating options my students will learn responsibility in choosing their seat, staying "in the zone", and minimizing distractions.
The items I have chosen will give my students additional seating choices to make learning more effective. The wobble chairs allow for movement of the body while staying in one place. The comfy floor seats allow students to work at a lower level in a more comfortable manner. The book boxes allow for easy transportation of materials to and from their desks. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out.
I have witnessed how choice in seating can teach responsibility, positively affect work demeanor, and allow more focused time to strengthen our brains.
