My students attend an open-admission, public charter school in New Orleans where over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Nearly a third of my students are English Language Learners, and struggle with learning the increasingly difficult content of upper grades in addition to the English language. My goal is to prepare all of my students for college graduation, and a successful, meaningful, and deliberate life. They are bright, buzzing adolescent readers and writers who amaze me daily with their spark, resilience, and intelligence.
