As a first year teacher, books, specifically quality ones - are lacking in my room. Students only check out books at the library once a week, and these are students who can benefit immensely from having high-interest, quality literature right in their classroom. After surveying my students, I have found the genres, authors, and subjects that are missing. This project will help build my classroom library in a way that will meet THEIR needs. In addition to the timeless classics that are lacking in the classroom library, my students need books that represent THEM. Characters in books can be a source of inspiration for students, and can help them aspire to higher levels of learning and engagement at school. Through literature, we can teach children that their visions for their future can be realized. They, too, can make a difference. Please note that your contribution does so much more than fill bookshelves. All books can teach children, but good books can help them achieve more than they thought possible.
