My students attend a Title 1 school where 75% of them receive free or reduced lunch and breakfast. My students ALL receive a free lunch and breakfast due to the low socio-economic neighborhood they live in. Some of them also receive weekend meals for them and their families. Most do not have computer access at home and many of their parents may not be able to take them to the public library to have access to computers or books. My students represent various ethnic backgrounds. A majority are African American (with some from Caribbean countries), while the rest of the population is Hispanic, Caucasian, and make up other ethnic backgrounds (Asian, Indian, etc). Some of my students come from large families where they may have to help raise younger siblings or family members. Some of their parents work lots of hours and my students look forward to coming to school where they can learn and be a kid.
