My project focuses on putting musical instruments into the hands of each one of my 500 students and to teach them how to read, play and create music. I would like to do this by purchasing a class set of ukeleles. Elementary music is primarily based on vocal music, but there are more than a few children who are not comfortable expressing themselves vocally. Teaching these students to play a musical instrument opens up a whole new world of expression for them. Playing a musical instrument develops coordination, problem solving, creativity, tenacity, grit, persistence, work ethic, collaboration, communication, listening, confidence, and so many more life long skills that will help these children not just throughout their education, but through their lifetime. By giving my students the opportunity to learn and play musical instruments at an early age, I hope to give them the ability and the self confidence to be willing take on future challenges, to set goals, and to have the determination and the perseverance to keep working until they find success.
