In younger grade levels one of the most important requirements for a functional classroom is the ability to store all the materials students need. My students will bring in items that I need to store in addition to the things already in the classroom. Moving into my new room this year proved very frustrating when I came in to see some damaged and cracked containers. In addition to being a safety hazard, there wasn't enough room. My new classroom has no closet or main area for storage. This means I am dependent on shelves as my storage option. I rescued a large shelving unit that will hold almost all of our day to day supplies. The containers that came with it are broken and clouded over with stained dirt of years gone by. My students deserve clean and safe storage boxes and book bins to be used and handled by them daily. They deserve to feel their room is a reflection of their community's belief in them, featuring clean and whole materials.
