How will flexible seating options help my students? My Scholars (as I call them) are very high energy and are in dire need of an environment that is conducive to learning for them. They are constantly on the move, both in the classroom and around the building as they travel to speech and resource-type classes. The student chairs currently in my room cause lots of commotion and noise when moved even the slightest bit. For a group of students who are easily distracted, you can imagine how this interrupts their learning. My students are low socioeconomic and come from homes where school is not often a top priority, and that combined with their learning disabilities makes for often challenging times in school. It is my goal as their teacher to provide an environment where they are able to see that they can be successful in school and are able to pursue whatever their hearts desire for their futures. Seating that allows for quiet, non-distracting movement will allow these kiddos to move and exert energy while focusing more on their academics and seeing that they have the ability to be excellent Scholars.
